Statesville Police Department Visits Girl Scouts "Secret Agent" Camp

Last Updated 7/2/2026Posted in Police News

The Statesville Police Department recently had the opportunity to spend time with local Girl Scouts during their "Secret Agent" themed camp at The Dale Earnhardt Foundation at Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center, sharing what it's like to work in criminal investigations.

Members of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID), including Cpl. Stewart, Investigator Chavez, and Investigator York, led an interactive presentation about the role of detectives. Campers learned about crime scenes, the importance of evidence, and some of the specialized resources investigators use to help solve cases.

One of the highlights of the day was a live drone demonstration, giving the Girl Scouts a firsthand look at how technology can assist law enforcement during investigations.

The campers also became junior investigators during a fingerprinting activity. Using a variety of surfaces, including glass, tiles, and jars, the Girl Scouts practiced making invisible fingerprints visible while learning how fingerprints can become valuable evidence in criminal investigations. Throughout the presentation, the campers asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity about police work.

The visit concluded with a generous surprise as the Girl Scouts presented the Statesville Police Department with five full cases of Girl Scout cookies.

The cookies quickly became a favorite back at the police department, where Chief David Onley, Assistant Chief David Ivarsson, investigators, and officers expressed their sincere appreciation for the thoughtful gift.

The Statesville Police Department extends a special thank you to Officer Chan for coordinating the event with the Girl Scouts and assisting throughout the activities. We are grateful for opportunities like this to connect with our community, inspire future leaders, and give young people a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement.
