STATESVILLE, NC - January 5, 2025

The Statesville Police Department proudly welcomed four new officers during a swearing-in ceremony held at Statesville City Hall, marking an important milestone in their law enforcement careers.

Family members, friends, and fellow officers gathered to support the new recruits as Mayor Doug Hendrix administered the oath of office. The ceremony highlighted not only the officers’ accomplishments, but also the strong support systems behind each of them.

Meet our New Officers:

Carolina Ortez

Carolina Ortez is the eldest of seven sisters and is 23 years old. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Catawba College in May 2025. Driven by a lifelong aspiration to serve her community, she pursued a career in law enforcement and successfully completed Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Mitchell Community College, graduating in December 2025.

Tevin Adams

Tevin Adams is 22 years old and was raised in Statesville. He attended Statesville Middle School before moving to Charlotte, where he graduated from Mallard Creek High School in 2021. Motivated by a desire to help others and create positive change, he chose a career in law enforcement to make a meaningful impact in the community he calls home. He completed BLET at Mitchell Community College in December 2025.

Maximilliano Moreno, Jr.

Born and raised in Statesville, Maximilliano Moreno, Jr. is 21 years old and attended North Iredell High School. Immediately after graduating, he enlisted in the Army National Guard without telling his parents. His parents, Maximiliano Sr. and Esther Moreno, immigrated from Mexico to provide their children with greater opportunities in the United States. With a lifelong goal of becoming a police officer, Maximilliano completed BLET at Mitchell Community College in December 2025 and is committed to supporting and protecting his community.

Jean Paul Loaiza

Jean Paul Loaiza is 20 years old and a first-generation American whose family is from Cali, Colombia. He attended West Iredell High School and completed BLET at Mitchell Community College in December 2025. Motivated by a desire to serve others, he chose a career in law enforcement to provide safety, support, and reassurance to individuals and the community where it matters most.

“These four officers represent the future of our department,” said David Onley, Chief of Police. “Each of them brings a strong sense of purpose, dedication, and commitment to serving others. We are proud to welcome them to the Statesville Police Department and look forward to the positive impact they will have in our community.”

The Statesville Police Department congratulates Officers Ortez, Adams, Moreno, and Loaiza and thanks their families and loved ones for the support they have provided along the way. We are proud to welcome these officers as they begin their service to the Statesville community.
