Statesville Police Department Receives National Child Safety Council 5-Year Award

Last Updated 9/17/2025Posted in Latest City News

The Statesville Police Department is honored to have received the National Child Safety Council (NCSC) 5-Year Award, recognizing our department’s ongoing participation in the Safetypup® Program. The award was recently presented by Dale Royer, Safety Coordinator for NCSC, in recognition of our continued commitment to child safety education.

For the past five years, the Safetypup® program has allowed our officers to connect with children in a fun and engaging way while teaching them the basics of staying safe and drug-free.

Designed with young learners in mind, the program uses games, puzzles, rhymes, riddles, songs, and colorful materials to make important lessons both memorable and enjoyable. Safetypup® himself - a fun-loving puppy character - serves as a positive role model and a visible reminder for kids to make safe choices every day.

“NCSC is proud to bring the Safetypup® program to Statesville. With the help of Chief Onley and his department, we may help to prevent a needless tragedy from happening to a child,” shared Dale Royer during the presentation.

Chief David W. Onley added, “The Safetypup® program is financially supported through the generous contributions of our business, industrial, civic, fraternal, and veteran leaders. Their concern and dedication to the safety and well-being of our young people help this program continue year after year. We are truly grateful for their support.”
