The Statesville Police Department and the City of Statesville are proud to announce the promotion of Captain John C. Galliher to Assistant Police Chief.

Assistant Chief Galliher began his law enforcement career with the Statesville Police Department in 2010 and has served his entire career with the agency. Sponsored through Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET), he started in the Patrol Division on A Squad. Over the years, he has steadily progressed through the department, holding leadership positions in both patrol and specialized divisions.

His previous assignments have included service as a Patrol Officer, Investigator/Corporal in the Criminal Investigations Division, Sergeant over Bravo Squad in the Patrol Division, Sergeant in the Community Services Division, Captain of Community Services, and most recently, Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division.

In his new role as Assistant Chief, Galliher will continue to oversee the Criminal Investigations and Narcotics divisions while taking on additional responsibilities for the department’s Communications Center and Records Division. He will play a critical role in helping lead the department through a period of significant growth, working to ensure the agency remains responsive to the needs of the city and its residents. He will also oversee the future integration of Fire Dispatch operations into the SPD Communications Center, further enhancing the city’s emergency response capabilities.

Assistant Chief Galliher is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course at the University of Louisville and has completed the FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy. He holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and received the SPD Life-Saving Award in 2011. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public administration.

The Assistant Police Chief position is a key leadership role within the department, responsible for supporting the Chief of Police in planning, implementing, and evaluating all police functions. The position also includes oversight of major divisions, participation in policy development, and engagement with community stakeholders.

“Assistant Chief Galliher brings valuable experience, a thoughtful leadership style, and a deep understanding of our community to this important position,” said Chief David Onley. “His dedication to the Statesville Police Department and to the citizens we serve makes him well-suited to help guide the department forward.”

The Statesville Police Department and the City of Statesville congratulate Assistant Chief Galliher on his well-deserved promotion and thank him for his continued service and leadership.
