Statesville Police Department Upgrades to Axon Technology for Enhanced Safety, Transparency, and Efficiency

The Statesville Police Department has completed a major technology upgrade with the implementation of Axon’s advanced suite of public safety tools. This upgrade includes body cameras, in-car video systems, and tasers, all fully integrated and designed to work seamlessly within one connected system. The transition was made possible in part through a $410,000 Byrne Justice Grant advocated by Senator Thom Tillis’ office.

Previously, SPD used Pro-Vision cameras and tasers. With the move to Axon, officers now have access to modern, efficient tools that increase safety, improve transparency, and streamline the investigative process.

New Axon Equipment in Use

The department’s new Axon technology includes 93 Axon Body 4 cameras, 93 Taser 10 devices, and 55 Axon Fleet 3 in-car camera systems. Each piece of equipment is equipped with Axon Signal Technology, which allows devices to automatically activate during critical moments such as when a patrol vehicle’s lights or sirens are engaged. This ensures that both body-worn and in-car cameras begin recording without any manual intervention, providing consistent and reliable documentation.

To ensure proper use and understanding of the new equipment, all sworn officers have completed training on the Axon Body 4 cameras and Taser 10 devices. In addition, officers assigned vehicles equipped with Axon Fleet 3 in-car cameras have completed comprehensive training on that system. This preparation allows officers to maximize the benefits of the technology and maintain best practices for evidence collection and public interactions.

Evidence.com Enhances Case Management

All SPD officers now have access to Axon’s secure digital platform, Evidence.com. This system securely stores video, audio, and device data, and enables officers to organize and prepare case materials more efficiently. Prosecution packets can be compiled and sent directly to the District Attorney’s Office, improving the speed and accuracy of case reviews. With all four systems connected—body cameras, in-car cameras, tasers, and the cloud-based platform—the department benefits from a unified approach to evidence collection and management.

A Commitment to Innovation and Service

The upgrade to Axon technology reflects the Statesville Police Department’s continued commitment to adopting tools that improve officer safety, enhance transparency, and build trust within the community. By leveraging this connected ecosystem, SPD is better prepared to respond to calls, document interactions, and support the criminal justice process with clarity and efficiency.
