SPD Investigating Shooting Incident on Gay Street

Statesville, NC – On Friday, June 5th, 2024, at approximately 3:00 A.M., officers from the Statesville Police Department responded to a call reporting shots fired in the 1900 block of Gay St. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a subject had been shot multiple times at the address but had already been transported to the hospital via private vehicle.

The crime scene was immediately secured, and a search warrant for the residence was obtained to allow the Criminal Investigations Division to process the scene thoroughly.

Shortly after, the victim, identified as Desmond Reshawn Gray, 28, of Statesville, arrived at Iredell Memorial Hospital with life-threatening wounds to his legs. He was quickly triaged and flown to Wake Forest Baptist Regional Medical Center for further treatment, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Officers also located and processed the vehicle in which Gray was transported.
