Statesville, North Carolina – On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at approximately 5:25 P.M., the Statesville Police Department responded to a report of a shooting incident at a residence in the 600 block of West Bell Street. Upon arrival, officers found Cameron Connor, 33, of Statesville, inside the residence suffering from a single gunshot wound to the torso. The Statesville Fire Department and Iredell County EMS were dispatched to the scene, and Connor was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for medical treatment.

The Statesville Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Preliminary inquiries have indicated that Connor unlawfully entered the residence of the victim, who was present with his 7-year-old son at the time. Despite repeated requests from the victim for Connor to leave, Connor persisted and physically assaulted the victim. The victim discharged a firearm, resulting in a single gunshot wound to Connor.  A neighbor arrived on the scene and was directed by the victim to contact emergency services.

It has been revealed that Cameron Connor is presently on probation for prior drug-related offenses and has a documented history of mental illness.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and the Statesville Police Department encourages anyone with additional information to contact the department at 704-878-3515.

Upon completion of the investigation, the findings will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for further review.
