Statesville Police Department | Child Abuse Awareness Month

Last Updated 3/31/2026Posted in Police News

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month - a time to stand together as a community to protect our most vulnerable citizens: our children. At the Statesville Police Department, we are committed to raising awareness, encouraging prevention, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe and supportive environment.

A Community United in Blue

As a symbol of our shared commitment, the City of Statesville will once again turn the Downtown Statesville crosswalk bollard lights blue throughout April.

This visible reminder represents hope, protection, and our collective responsibility to speak up for children who may not have a voice.

Recognizing the Signs of Child Abuse

Child abuse can take many forms - physical, emotional, sexual, or neglect - and it is not always easy to recognize. Being aware of the warning signs can make a life-changing difference. Some indicators may include:

  • Unexplained injuries or frequent bruising
  • Sudden changes in behavior or school performance
  • Fear of going home or being around certain individuals
  • Withdrawal, anxiety, or depression
  • Poor hygiene or unmet basic needs

Trust your instincts - if something doesn’t feel right, it’s important to take it seriously.

We All Play a Role

Protecting children is not just the responsibility of law enforcement - it takes a community. By staying informed, speaking up, and supporting local families, we can work together to prevent abuse and create a safer environment for every child in Statesville.

Let’s stand together this April - and every month - to ensure that every child is seen, heard, and protected.
