Statesville Police Department Junior Ambassadors Launch “Warm Hearts Coat Drive”

Last Updated 1/9/2026Posted in Junior Ambassadors

The Statesville Police Department Junior Ambassadors are stepping up to help neighbors in need with the Warm Hearts Coat Drive, a community-wide effort to ensure every child – and anyone in need – has a warm coat this winter.

The idea for the coat drive came directly from the Junior Ambassadors themselves. After noticing classmates walking to and from school without coats, the teens felt compelled to take action. As they began asking questions and volunteering in local schools, they quickly realized the need extended beyond their high school and into all schools across Statesville.

Their goal is simple but powerful: make sure every child in Statesville who needs a coat has one.

About the Junior Police Ambassadors Program

Now in its second year, the Junior Police Ambassadors program provides teens with meaningful opportunities to engage with the community while working alongside the Statesville Police Department.

The program offers part-time, temporary positions for teens ages 15–18. Junior Ambassadors assist with city-sponsored and community events, mentor younger children, lead age-appropriate activities, and help organize and promote SPD programs, classes, and camps. Through these experiences, ambassadors gain leadership skills, foster positive relationships, and serve as role models for their peers.

The Warm Hearts Coat Drive is just one example of how these young leaders are already putting compassion into action. Community members are encouraged to participate by donating coats and helping spread the word.

Together, we can help keep Statesville warm this winter.
