Day 2 of SPD Summer Camp: Crime-Solving, Fingerprints, and Gun Safety
Day 2 of the Statesville Police Department’s Summer Camp was packed with hands-on learning, detective work, and valuable safety lessons!
Campers got a behind-the-scenes look at how SPD’s Criminal Investigations Division works to solve crimes. Investigators walked them through the basics of crime scene processing, including how to identify evidence and collect fingerprints. With gloves on and brushes in hand, the campers tried their own hand at dusting for prints – putting their new skills to the test.
After helping “solve the crime,” each camper had the opportunity to get their own fingerprints taken – just like the pros!
The day wrapped up with an engaging and age-appropriate gun safety session led by Eddie Eagle, a program designed to teach kids what to do if they ever come across a firearm: Stop. Don’t touch. Run away. Tell a grown-up. It’s a powerful message delivered in a way that sticks with kids and helps keep them safe.
