Operation Safe Driver Week: Promoting Safer Roads in Statesville

Last Updated 6/29/2026

Each year, the Statesville Police Department proudly participates in Operation Safe Driver Week (July 12 - 18, 2026), a nationwide initiative aimed at improving road safety by addressing unsafe driving behaviors among both commercial drivers and passenger vehicle operators. This campaign, coordinated by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), brings law enforcement agencies together across North America to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities on our roadways.

What Is Operation Safe Driver Week?

Operation Safe Driver Week is more than just another traffic enforcement effort, it’s a focused campaign designed to raise awareness, educate drivers, and encourage safe driving habits. While traffic laws are enforced year-round, this week puts extra emphasis on behaviors that lead to crashes, such as:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Aggressive driving
  • Following too closely
  • Improper lane changes
  • Failure to wear a seat belt
  • Driving under the influence

Statesville’s Commitment to Safer Streets

The Statesville Police Department is committed to keeping our community safe, and that includes our roadways. Whether you’re driving to work, transporting goods across the state, or taking your family on a summer trip, every driver plays a role in preventing accidents.

How You Can Help

Here are a few ways every driver in Statesville can contribute to a safer driving environment:

  • Obey speed limits – They’re set to protect everyone.
  • Stay focused – Avoid using your phone or other distractions while driving.
  • Drive defensively – Be aware of your surroundings and anticipate others’ actions.
  • Share the road – Give trucks and buses extra space, especially when turning or changing lanes.
  • Buckle up – It’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself.
  • Don't Drink and Drive – Alcohol and drugs impair judgment, slow reaction times, and put lives at risk.

Operation Safe Driver Week is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on our driving habits and make changes that can save lives. The Statesville Police Department encourages everyone, residents, visitors, and commercial operators alike, to drive with caution, patience, and respect for others on the road. Let’s work together to make Statesville’s roads safer for everyone.
