On May 28, 2026, investigators with the Statesville Police Department responded to a residence in the 500 block of Valley Street to follow up on a welfare check involving a juvenile.
Prior to responding, investigators received an anonymous tip alleging narcotics were being kept inside the residence and that the juvenile may be in danger. Investigators coordinated with the Iredell County Department of Social Services (DSS), and DSS personnel responded to the residence alongside investigators.
Upon arrival, investigators made contact with the resident and father of the juvenile, identified as Dylan Matthew Truitt, 23, of Statesville.
While at the residence, investigators observed drug paraphernalia and an unsecured firearm that was readily accessible to the juvenile. Based on the evidence observed, investigators obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence.
During the execution of the search warrant, investigators recovered multiple firearms, approximately 27.3 grams of cocaine, and various items of drug paraphernalia.
As a result of the investigation, Truitt was charged with:
- Felony Exposing a Child to a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Misdemeanor Child Abuse
Truitt was taken before an Iredell County Magistrate and issued a $75,000 secured bond.
During the course of the investigation, investigators identified additional individuals believed to be involved. One of those individuals was identified as Carlos Manuel Giron, 34, of Statesville. Warrants were obtained charging Giron with:
- Felony Possession of Cocaine
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Giron, who is currently on probation for Felony Possession of Cocaine and Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, was subsequently arrested and issued a $10,000 secured bond by an Iredell County Magistrate.
Investigators also identified an additional individual believed to be involved in the incident. An active warrant for that individual's arrest remains outstanding. The individual's identity is not being released at this time.
The juvenile was taken into the custody of Iredell County DSS.
