City of Statesville Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Police Department Expansion and Parking Deck

City officials, staff, project partners, and members of the community gathered on Monday, June 16, to officially break ground on the Statesville Police Department Expansion and Parking Deck Project at 330 S. Tradd Street. The event marked the beginning of a major downtown initiative focused on enhancing public safety services and supporting future growth.

The expansion will bring all divisions of the Statesville Police Department under one roof, providing updated facilities and modern resources to improve service and operational efficiency. The six-level parking deck will support police operations, downtown visitors, and future apartment residents.

March 18, 1934: Officer James Ross White, age 43, was killed in the line of duty while investigating a traffic accident at the intersection of South Race Street and West Sharpe Street. He was struck by a hit and run vehicle and died shortly thereafter. The driver, Noah Hayes, was captured a short time later and admitted he was driving the vehicle.
