2026 SPD Summer Camp Starts with a Bang!
The first day of Statesville Police Department Summer Camp was packed with fun, laughter, and plenty of activity!
This year's camp was organized by the SPD Junior Ambassadors, who worked hard to plan a week of engaging activities for campers. Officers from the Community Resources Division were on hand to help lead the activities and make sure everyone had a great experience.
Day 1 got off to a great start with a meet-and-greet and icebreakers that helped campers get to know one another, as well as the officers and leaders who will be spending the week with them.
Next, it was time to get creative! Campers colored their own SPD badges and proudly showed off their designs. Some even made the rounds collecting officer autographs on their badges before heading to the next activity.
After a quick warmup to get everyone moving, officers introduced campers to the POPAT, or Police Officer Physical Abilities Test. Campers learned that police officers must complete this fitness test during their training to demonstrate the strength, agility, and endurance needed for the job.
Then came the fun part! Campers tackled an obstacle course inspired by some of the challenges officers face during the POPAT. They ran, crawled, weaved through obstacles, and raced their way through the course while cheering on their teammates. A few officers joined in on the action, adding some friendly competition and plenty of laughs along the way.
By lunchtime, everyone had worked up an appetite. Campers enjoyed a well-earned meal before heading home to rest and get ready for another day of summer camp adventures.
A big thank you to the SPD Junior Ambassadors for planning such a fun first day of camp. We can't wait to see what they have in store for the rest of the week! 🚔☀️😎💙
