Arrest Made in Old Charlotte Road Robbery and Assault Case
The suspects demanded the victims' cellphones and, when denied, physically assaulted both victims. One victim’s cellphone was taken during the robbery, while the other victim was able to retain their phone.
The suspects fled north on Old Charlotte Road. Both victims were transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital for treatment. One victim sustained a fractured jaw. The second victim required surgery for injuries to their nose and eye and was transferred to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
The Statesville Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit responded to the scene and launched an investigation. Over the following days, investigators gathered evidence that led to the identification of one of the suspects as 39-year-old Detrick Dontay Hamilton of Statesville. Warrants were issued for Hamilton’s arrest on the following charges:
- Two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury (AWDWISI)
- Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
- Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
- Felony Conspiracy
- Assault on a Female
On May 9, 2025, investigators located Hamilton near the Fifth Street Ministries. Surveillance units observed him entering a vehicle, and a traffic stop was conducted at Old Charlotte Road and Power Street. Hamilton was taken into custody without incident. He was brought before a magistrate and received no bond due to the severity of the charges.
