Statesville, NC – June 5, 2024 – The Statesville Police Department is excited to announce the formation of the South Statesville Junior Police Ambassadors. This new initiative will create up to four (4) part-time/temporary positions within the Statesville Police Department (SPD), offering teens a unique opportunity to engage with their community and the SPD.

The South Statesville Junior Police Ambassadors will play an integral role in activities related to the SPD and the South Statesville Community. These activities include participation in city-sponsored and community functions that the SPD is involved in. The positions will operate from early summer through mid-December, covering various events during this period.

Selected teens will serve as mentors to both children and peers, leading groups in age-appropriate activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and field trips. They will also assist in organizing and promoting SPD activities, classes, and camps. Furthermore, they will be expected to encourage participation and foster good sportsmanship among other youth.

Requirements to be considered for one of the positions include:

  • Must be at least 15 years of age and no older than 18 years of age.
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Cannot have any school expulsions in the last year.
  • Cannot have any school disciplinary actions in the last 6 months.
  • Must have a letter of recommendation from a teacher and/or community leader.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening.

Interested applicants can apply online at www.statesvillenc.net/careers. Ambassadors will work less than 30 hours a week and will receive compensation for hours worked. The positions will remain open until filled.

Chief Onley expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating, "We are thrilled to launch the South Statesville Junior Police Ambassadors. This initiative will not only strengthen the bond between the police department and the youth of our community but also provide valuable experiences and mentorship opportunities for the ambassadors."

The Statesville Police Department looks forward to welcoming the new Junior Police Ambassadors and seeing the positive impact they will have on the community.
