Homicide Investigation Update – Arrest of Javis Black

Statesville, North Carolina | March 28, 2023

On March 28, 2023, the United States Marshall Service, with the assistance of Carolina’s Regional Task Force, conducted search warrants on two residences in Beckley, West Virginia. During the execution of the search warrants, Javis Black, 22 of Statesville, was apprehended and taken into custody without incident. Black was wanted for the homicide of Zion S. Wilder and the Attempted Murder of a juvenile, who is still currently in critical condition.

The Statesville Police Department would like to thank the United States Marshall Service/Carolina’s Regional Task Force for their continued partnership and efforts in locating Black. All three suspects in the homicide and attempted murder that occurred on March 15, 2023 on Goldsboro Avenue are now in custody.
