STATESVILLE, NC – On Saturday, March 2, 2024, an officer with the Statesville Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a white GMC for a stop sign violation at the intersection of Lerain Court and Dobson Avenue.

Prior to the vehicle coming to a stop, the driver discarded a bag from the vehicle, which landed on the roadway. Additional officers arrived at the scene and located the discarded bag. Upon inspection, officers discovered approximately 5 pounds of marijuana concealed within the bag.

The driver of the GMC, identified as Cortney Sirron Phifer, Jr., a 22-year-old resident of Winston Salem, was taken into custody. A thorough search conducted by officers also uncovered $3,805.00 in US currency on Phifer's person, which was seized as evidence.

Phifer was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, and Felony Maintaining a Vehicle. Additionally, Phifer was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest for felony probation violation.

Following his arrest, Phifer was presented before a magistrate where he received a $30,000.00 secured bond for the felony probation violation and was denied bond for the drug-related charges.
