Statesville, NC – On January 24, 2024, investigators from the Statesville Police Department received a Cybertip from the NC State Bureau of Investigation, alerting them to the actions of an individual in Statesville, North Carolina, who had been uploading child sexual exploitation material on October 13, 2023. The suspect was identified as William Curtis Powell, residing at a home on E. End Avenue in Statesville.

On February 1, 2024, a search warrant was executed at Powell's residence, with the assistance of NCSBI agents.

During the execution of the search warrant, several external digital media storage devices were discovered, each containing numerous files of child sexual exploitation material.

As a result of the investigation, arrest warrants were secured charging William Curtis Powell with 12 counts of Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Powell is currently in custody at the Iredell County Detention Center, where he is held under a $250,000 bond.
